What is an Outer Container?

An outer container can also be referred to as a pallet. It holds inner containers and has pallet labels. There are two types of pallet labels used in TrueAuto, which are master pallets and mixed pallets.

  • The master pallet includes inner containers with the same part number. In TrueAuto, it is indicated by the MASTR Label Type.

  • Mixed pallet includes inner containers with different part numbers. It is indicated by the MIXED Label Type.

NOTE: An inner container is a box that holds individual parts and has inner container labels.

You can use TrueAuto TruckLoad to complete scanning all inner container serials of a pallet, then the master or mixed pallet serial will automatically be generated. That is the usual process. However, there are some events in which the manual creation of an outer container becomes needed:

  • If the pallet labels are torn down or become unidentified for some reason, you might want to recreate and then reprint those labels to be posted on the outer containers again.

  • If the outer container records are deleted by accident, there will be data discrepancy between the physical pallet labels and the Outer Container records in the system.

In the event that you must manually enter an outer container or pallet record, follow the instructions provided, below.

Create an Outer Container

The Barcode Labels menu

You can use this menu to manage both Outer Container and Inner Container records in TrueAuto. When you print the labels, the pallet serials will be generated by the system according to the selected Trading Partner’s specifications.

To create a new Barcode Label:

  1. From the Customer Shipments menu, click Barcode Labels.

  2. On the Customer Barcode Labels page, click New.

  3. Under the General tab, select the Trading Partner in the drop-down list.

  4. Select the Label Type from the drop-down list.

Note that Pallets with the MASTR Label Types include the same part number. Pallets with the MIXED Label Types include different part numbers.

  5. To select the Part Number, click the Search icon in the Part Number field. Then, on the Browse Parts window, choose the part number and click Select.

NOTE: This step is only needed if the type of label on the pallet is MASTR.

  6. Click Save.

  7. Complete any additional non-default or relevant details that are specific to the containers that you are printing; for example, lot numbers, weights, dates, or other Trading Partner specific requirements. When you are finished, click Save.

  8. On the Customer Barcode Labels page, click the record that you want to print.

  9. Click the Print icon to start the print job.

Serial Numbers are generated by TrueAuto, Serial records are created and stored, and the label is printed.
